Vintage Japanese Humming Whistle- Dog and Cat, Flowers

This whistle is a bit unusual. It is basically a 3.5 inch ( 8.9 cm) long tin shape with two circles joined together. A string loop goes through two small holes in the center.

Theoretically if you hold the ends of the string loop in each hand and twirl the whistle around and around to twist up the string, when you now pull the twisted string tight you should hear a humming sound. Not so much unless my hearing is way worse than I thought.

Holding the string in one hand and twirling it overhead fast does produce a sound of sorts.

This is often how it is with these cheap Japanese toys. I liked the piece for the litho. A dog and cat on each side of the whistle sit among flowers and butterflies with a little bird in the center.

The back has colored stripes.  Condition is good with some wear along the crimped edge on the back and a small spot of rust along one edge (all on the dog side).
