Pre-War Japanese Wooden Tiles in Box
I am not sure of the purpose of this boxed set of paper litho on wood tiles. It could be an educational toy. The tiles are much shallower than the usual blocks and the paper litho is applied to one side only.
Each tile is roughly 1.5 inches square and 3/8 inches deep. The depth varies slightly on some tiles.
On the back is a printed image of the Japanese character seen on the front left corner of the front of the block. I assume that the image, Japanese character and English word on the front are all related. There are fifty tiles in all.
The detailed and colorful printed litho on the tiles is absolutely beautiful. Images range from animals, fruits, and flowers to vintage vehicles and everyday household objects. Condition is very good o excellent in the original box. These were never played with as far as I can tell.
The rather plain box is 8 inches (20.3 cm) square. The foxing to the cardboard and two missing corners on the lid are about the only damage. The individual tiles are in very good to excellent condition with almost no paper damage except wrinkling on some.
