Early Japanese Tin Drum- Three Japanese Characters-Red Tengu

$275.00 FREE shipping

These tin drums are a Japanese market item and were made anywhere from the 1920's until the 1960's. Used by children marching in the many festivals held in Japan, they came with a small wooden stick with a ball end that would strike the drum. Needless to say it was the first part lost.

This drum is early, possibly Pre-War Japanese but just as likely to be early 1950's. It is hard to determine from the colors.

Three Japanese characters, one a red Tengu are seen on both sides of the drum. I'm not sure of the names of the other two.

The edge of the drum, which is slightly curved, shows two children dancing with the Dragon Head Masks along with images of a drum, two striped balls and some decorative shapes.

This drum is 4 and 3/8 inches (11 cm) in diameter and 1.75 inches  ( 4.4 cm) deep.

Condition is very good to excellent. Colors are bright and strong. The rims of the drum show very minor wear. One side has one chip in the litho. I have made no attempt to clean anything.

One of my precious wooden strikers will be included with this drum.
