Early Vintage Japanese Sugoroku- Children, The Monkey and Crab, Lion Dance

$50.00 FREE shipping

This early Japanese sugoroku is printed in colorful inks on a flimsy folded paper.  The folded game sheet still has the original 5 inch (7.54 cm) wide sleeve printed in red ink only showing two children's heads.  The sheet unfolds to 21 inches ( 53.3 cm) long and 14.5 inches (36.8 cm) tall.

This game sheet shows young children, dressed cats and dogs, a Lion dance, depictions of Japanese fairy tales, a rowing race between rabbits and what I take to be foxes as a tiger looks on, Santa Claus visting sleeping children, and a cat hanging with some mice who have a bell for her. The colors are vibrant.

The paper game sheet has overall foxing due to age and four tiny holes. One is wear on a corner where the game is folded (lower part of center image), the others (two holes in the center image and one in the #8 image) might be insect damage.  The right side edge of the game has darker foxing and some brittle paper, especially on the lowest third of the side.

This game sheet is folded but it would flatten nicely (ironing carefully usually works) and look great framed. Overall condition is very good.
